Welcome to 2nd Grade

Dear Students, Parent(s), and Guardian(s),

Welcome to 2nd grade!  My name is Mrs. Palacios.  I have been a part of the Montague Charter Academy family since 1993.  I work alongside amazing teachers and support staff.  Together we are committed to providing the MCA community with a quality education.  

My primary responsibility as your child's school teacher is to provide the high-quality educational experiences you've come to expect here at MCA! I am looking forward to a year filled with lots of new learning!

Please look and listen for updates on our school website and the occasional communication sent via phone dialer.

Daily Schedule: School hours: 8:10a.m. - 2:40p.m., Monday thru Friday, except for Early dismissal at 1: 40pm. on Tuesday

Attendance: Good attendance helps your child achieve his/her learning potential. Please help your child practice a daily routine that includes arriving to school on time ready to learn and keeping a regular bedtime to ensure your child is able to begin his/her routine the next day.  If your child is absent or tardy please contact the school's main office at (818) 899-0215 or leave me a private message via Class Dojo.

Snacks: Send a small, healthy snack, a small bottle of water (marked with your child's name on it), and napkins placed in a lunch bag or box that can be eaten during a 20 minute recess break. NO glass bottles or containers! NO aluminum cans! DO NOT freeze water bottles!

Homework: Read daily and/or listen to audio books. Study addition or subtraction facts. Have conversations about your child's day. Homework packets are assigned and due each MONDAY. Learn together with your child!

Discipline: Encourage a positive learning environment with the following expectations:

1. Show Respect

2. Make Good Decisions

3. Solve Problems

Review your child's Homework/Behavior Log daily to learn how well your child is following the above "Personal Standards".

After-School Program: We offer both Think Together and LAs Best. Please contact the main office to register your child. If your child is registered, they will be dismissed directly from the class to their assigned area and leader. Please make sure your child (& teacher) knows to stay after school.

Grades: All Montague students will be graded on a 4, 3, 2, 1 grading scale:

4  (90%-100%) Exceeds Grade Level Standards

3 (70% - 89%)   Meets Grade Level Standards

2 (60% - 69%)    Partially Meets Grade Level Standards

1  ( 0% - 59%) Not Meeting Grade Level Standards
