Dear Students, Parent(s), and Guardian(s),
Welcome to a new school year! I am very excited to be your teacher. My name is Mr. Buckley, and I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our class. I was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley and attended college at Loyola Marymount University, where I studied Liberal Studies. I have had the privilege of being a part of Montague Charter Academy since 2000. Together with a team of amazing and creative teachers, I am committed to providing the MCA community with a quality 3rd grade school year for your child.
My goal this year is to have a successful school year accomplishing the Common Core Standards with the skills and technology we all learned through Distance Learning. I know that this year is very exciting for our scholars to be back in person, however there will be many challenges for us to conquer together after being away from campus for so long.
Attendance:
Attendance is crucial and enables your child to be successful in class. Attendance is taken right after the beginning of school at 8:15a.m. Please enforce a bedtime of 8:30 pm every night to ensure that your child is ready for their lessons. Please make sure that students have eaten breakfast and are dressed and ready to start their school day. Breakfast is provided daily for our scholars before the first bell rings if this helps their morning routine. As a teacher, I will establish a positive learning environment. Students are informed of class expectations daily, and are reminded of the power of a positive mindset in achieving their goals.
Homework:
Research indicates that students should spend a reasonable amount of time on homework and that those times vary by grade level. Primary students should spend 10-30 minutes on homework each night Monday through Thursday. Assignments mainly consist of Reading, Spelling, and Math. Please keep all school materials in one place and location at home. Every child must have a quiet place to work and learn free of siblings, TV, and other distractions. The area should be a desk/ table with school supplies.
All students at Montague will be graded on the traditional 4, 3, 2, 1 grading scale.
4 (90%-100%) Exceeds Grade Level Standards
3 (70%-89%) Meets Grade Level Standards
2 (60%-69%) Partially Meets Grade Level Standards
1 (0%-59%) Not Meeting Grade Level Standards
If you need assistance with technology you can email our Montague Tech team at [email protected] or call 818-351-9773.
Please email me at m.buckley@montaguecharter.org or contact me through Class Dojo if you have any questions or concerns. Be sure to include the name of your child, and the easiest phone number to reach you if would like me to call you back. If we work together, the children will achieve more and have a better educational experience.
Let’s have a great year!
Sincerely,
Mr. Buckley
