Closed-Campus Policies and Procedures
The following document has been developed to ensure a safe and secure campus for Montague students and staff. Non-Montague students and staff visiting campus are required to follow the safety procedures detailed throughout this document.
Montague’s Main Office
Montague’s Main Office will open at 7:30am and close at 4:00pm.
Any students entering campus after 8:15am will enter the school campus through the Main Office. These students will be marked tardy.
Visitors to Campus
Visitors requesting access to Montague’s campus before 7:30am must have scheduled an appointment or scheduled their visit through the Main Office at least 24 hrs. in advance. The Montague employee(s) meeting with this individual must confirm this appointment with the Main Office and must escort this individual at all times while on campus.
All teachers scheduling parent meetings before school begins should plan to end their meetings by 8:05am to prepare for the first bell and student pick up at 8:10am.
Any non-Montague employee requesting access to the campus after 7:30am must have scheduled an appointment through the Main Office at least 24 hrs. in advance. The Montague employee meeting this individual must confirm this appointment with the Main Office. A Montague employee must always escort visitors on campus.
Teachers are asked to not schedule parent meetings between 8:15am – 2:40pm however, if teachers plan to have non-Montague employees (ie. parents) volunteering in their classroom they must schedule and confirm these volunteers with the Main Office at least 24 hrs. in advance.
All visitors to campus must sign-in with the Main Office and must wear a “visitor” badge at all times.

Classroom Observations
When scheduling a classroom observation, visitors are asked to determine the classroom activity there are observing in collaboration with the classroom teacher and school administration and to keep the classroom observation time and frequency reasonable.
Visitors are asked to…
- Enter and leave the classroom as quietly as possible
- Not interrupt classroom proceedings
- Not converse with students, the teacher, and/or instructional aides during the visitation
- Not interfere with any school activities while on campus

Kindergarten Morning Arrival Procedures
Kindergarten students will enter campus through the auditorium. The auditorium door will open at 7:45am. Students will have the option of getting breakfast at Café MCA or waiting in the auditorium for the morning assembly. Parents will not accompany the students into the auditorium, unless they have received a visitors pass from the main office and have scheduled an appointment with the classroom teacher.
If it is inclement weather, parents will accompany the kindergarten students to the classroom and wait for the teacher to open the classroom door. If the parents are not available, kindergarten students will stay in the auditorium with supervision staff until they are escorted to class.
Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten Dismissal
Transitional Kindergarten (2:35pm)
Room 1: The teacher opens the front door of Room 1 and dismisses students one by one as parents arrive.
Kindergarten (2:35pm)
After school, kindergarten students will be dismissed from the auditorium. The auditorium door will open at 2:35pm. Parents will enter the auditorium, pick up students from their teacher, and exit through the side door of the auditorium onto Montague Street.
1st – 5th Grade Morning Arrival Procedures
1st – 5th grade students may enter campus through two separate gates.
Montague Gate #2
Montague Gate #2 will open each morning at 7:15am. Students who enter through this gate are expected to either walk to the Yard or walk to the Cafeteria for breakfast. Supervision staff and a member of Leadership will monitor this Gate and the Cafeteria during Breakfast.
All 1st – 5th grade students arriving after 8:15am will enter campus through the main office. These students will be marked tardy.
Breakfast in the Cafeteria
Breakfast will begin at 7:15am and end at 8:05am. Students arriving after 8:05am will be handed a prepackaged breakfast and are expected to walk to the Yard to line up with their class.
Supervision during breakfast will consist of no less than 1 supervisor including no less than one credentialed Montague employee.
Amboy Gate #3
Amboy Gate #3 will open each morning at 7:15am and will close at 8:15am. All students entering through this Gate will be expected to stay on the Yard. No less than 2 Supervision staff members and at least one member of Leadership will be available on the yard to accept and monitor these students.
Students will be on the yard from 7:15am – 8:15am. Students may play on the Yard until 8:10am. Students will be directed to line-up in their designated locations to prepare for their teachers arrival at 8:10am.
Teachers pick up students at 8:10am. The instructional day begins at 8:15am.
1st – 5th Grade Afternoon Dismissal Procedures
1st – 5th grade students will use two gates during dismissal.
Montague Gate #1
4th and 5th grade students will be escorted to Montague Gate #1.
No less than 1 member of supervision and no less than 1 member of Leadership will monitor this gate during dismissal.
Amboy Gate #3
1st - 3rd grade students will be escorted to Amboy Gate #3 where they will meet their parent/legal guardian or authorized caregiver in the “Parent Waiting Area” located between classrooms 50 and 51 and the Head Start playground.
No less than 1 member of supervision and no less than 1 member of Leadership will monitor the Parent Waiting Area.
Carpool Lane: A designated carpool lane will be set up for parents that have filled out the application for a carpool placard. Students will wait in the carpool pick-up area with a leadership member until their ride arrives.
Other Arrival and Dismissal Considerations
Students with Siblings in other Classrooms
Elder students with siblings will be expected to meet their younger sibling at Amboy Gate #3. Both siblings will be dismissed together from Amboy Gate #3.
Carpool Lane: Arrival
Two carpool lanes, designated by cones, will be prepared for morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
- Lane #1 - Montague St. directly in front of Montague’s Main Office
- Lane #2 - Amboy Ave. between Mineola St. leading to Montague Gate #3.
Parents are asked to use these carpool lanes whenever possible to drop-off and pick-up their student(s).
A member of Montague’s Supervision staff and/or Leadership will monitor these carpool lanes during morning arrival and dismissal.
After-School Programs
All after-school programs operating on Montague Charter Academy’s campus both during the week and on weekends are asked to set a plan for the safe and secure ingress and egress of students and are asked to follow Montague’s Closed Campus policies and procedures at all times.
