P.E. HOMEPAGE
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
About the Program
Physical Education is an important part of student education at Montague Charter Academy. MCA uses Achieve! Physical Education Curriculum as its main PE program. This program is in accordance with the California Physical Education Framework for students from K-5th grade. It offers standards-based, age- and skill appropriate activities that emphasize both skill development and fitness. It provides a sequential, non-competitive approach to skill development and fitness. MCA’s program ensures that students at every fitness and skill level experience regular success, encouraging continued participation and improvement. Furthermore, it incorporates Words of Wisdom, a character-developing component that helps provide an encouraging environment where all students support each other regardless of ability.
Physical Fitness Testing
Fifth grade students will participate in a physical fitness test called the Fitnessgram. The main goal of this test is to help students in starting life-long habits of regular physical activity. The Fitnessgram is composed of six fitness areas that show a level of fitness that offers a degree of defense against diseases that come from inactivity.
The six fitness areas tested are:
- Aerobic Capacity
- Abdominal Strength and Endurance
- Upper Body Strength and Endurance
- Body Composition
- Flexibility
Thanks to MCA’s commitment to Physical Education, all Montague students begin preparing for the Fitnessgram starting in Kindergarten. In addition, Fifth grade students receive an additional 30 minutes of Physical Education each week that is dedicated to preparing for the Fitnessgram.
